WHAT WE AFFIRM

WHAT WE AFFIRM

As a member of The Evangelical Covenant Church, we seek to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engaged in Christ’s mission in the world. The purpose of Covenant affirmations is to make clear the values and principles that have guided the Evangelical Covenant Church since its founding in 1885. For Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call Covenant Affirmations:

1. WE AFFIRM THE CENTRALITY OF THE WORD OF GOD.
2.WE AFFIRM THE NECESSITY OF THE NEW BIRTH.
3.WE AFFIRM A COMMITMENT TO THE WHOLE MISSION OF THE CHURCH.
4.WE AFFIRM THE CHURCH AS A FELLOWSHIP OF BELIEVERS.
5.WE AFFIRM A CONSCIOUS DEPENDENCE ON THE HOLY SPIRIT.
6.WE AFFIRM THE REALITY OF FREEDOM IN CHRIST.

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multiethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.

The Evangelical Covenant Church is:

-Evangelical, but not exclusive
-Biblical, but not doctrinaire
-Traditional, but not rigid
-Congregational, but not independent

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a pilgrim church. Until Christ comes, we worship, serve, and witness so that the whole earth may hear God’s voice, learn of God’s love, and experience God’s joy.

Pastor Kevin comes from a diverse Christian background. His parents grew up Catholic and Baptist, and raised Kevin and his sister Leslie at a Brethren Church. During High School the entire family was introduced to the ministry of Young Life. This early beginning to ministry ingrained in Kevin a passion to never make the Gospel of Jesus Christ boring. Kevin met his wife Angie in highschool in 2000 and they were married in 2003.

They graduated from The Ohio State University and while in college they served as a Youth Pastor/Leader at a Baptist Church and IT Administrator/Volunteer Youth Leader at the Vineyard Church of Columbus. After college, they both worked corporately still volunteering in youth ministry, until God began to speak starting with the word from a pastor at Vineyard Columbus, “Kevin, why are you just making money. Anyone can make money. You know that God has called you into ministry.”  God clearly called Kevin and Angie to serve together again at Faith Covenant Church in Westerville, Ohio. Kevin served as Associate & Youth Pastor for nine years at Faith Covenant Church.

During this season Kevin and Angie were blessed with the births of their 2 amazing boys Preston (2010) and Carson (2012).  Kevin also attended the Covenant’s North Park Theological Seminary. After graduating from North Park Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity the Diamonds followed the call as the Lead Pastor of San Andreas Community Covenant Church in California. There they were able to bring vitality to a 150 year old church and start Celebrate Recovery. After visiting Melbourne Beach to spend time with Angie’s sister, God began to speak again.

They felt the clear call to start a new church in this area that would be focused on the Word of God, love everyone, build a family-friendly ministry, and can live and serve alongside their own family. After sharing this vision with leaders of the Evangelical Covenant and going through Church Planter’s Assessment/Training, it was clear that God was moving in this direction and the Diamonds prepared to move across the country to follow His call again. Being a part of the community is important to The Diamonds so you will regularly see us at activities around the community. We find it a sacred privilege to get to serve and lead a new church! We love the Space Coast!

Pastor Kevin comes from a diverse Christian background. Raised in a Brethren Church with Catholic and Baptist influences, he and his family were introduced to Young Life in high school, sparking his passion for making the Gospel exciting. He met his wife, Angie, in 2000, and they married in 2003.

After graduating from The Ohio State University, Kevin and Angie served in youth ministry while working corporate jobs. A pivotal moment came when a pastor challenged Kevin: “Why are you just making money? God has called you to ministry.” This led them to Faith Covenant Church in Ohio, where Kevin served as Associate & Youth Pastor for nine years while attending North Park Theological Seminary. During this time, they welcomed their sons, Preston (2010) and Carson (2012).

After seminary, Kevin became Lead Pastor at San Andreas Community Covenant Church in California, revitalizing the 150-year-old church and launching Celebrate Recovery. A visit to Melbourne Beach and God’s prompting led them to plant a new church focused on God’s Word, love, and family. After training with the Evangelical Covenant Church, they moved across the country to follow this call.

The Diamonds love the Space Coast and feel honored to serve and build a Christ-centered community here!
